The Spirit of Shantaram

Embark upon a ‘Shantaram Tour’, reliving the adventurous moments as your journey takes you through a few of the spectacular sights mentioned in the famous book Shantaram.Based on the real events in the life of the author, Australian Gregory David Roberts.

Begin your journey with a visit to the bustling fishing villages popularly known as ‘Kolis’. Catch a glimpse of the daily hustle bustle and lifestyle of the city’s original inhabitants - the Fisher folk. You will then be driven to the Churchgate Railway Station to watch a Management Guru - the Dabbawalas, in action. For over a century Dabbawalas have been delivering lunch boxes to thousands of working people across Mumbai and all with clockwork precision and efficiency.

From here we will visit  Chor Bazzaar or Thieves Market all well associated with the book.

Enjoy an experience unique to Mumbai - a short train ride from Churchgate to Mahalaxmi; from here you will proceed to Dhobhi Ghat - world’s largest outdoor laundry. Be prepared for a fascinating spectacle, looking down upon row upon row of open- air concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone. Dhobi Ghat is where Mumbai’s traditional washer folk - or dhobis - provide a wonderful service, collecting dirty laundry, washing it, and returning it neatly pressed, all for a very small fee.

After an exhilarating few hours its only right that the Tour should finish  at Leopold's Bar in Colaba, a famous haunt of the authors during his time in Bombay.
